Hi Reader,
Welcome back to the Sunday Styling Series!
This is a weekly series that I’m transitioning over from my Instagram - some styling ideas I’ve been saving to help you get inspired for the week!
Today’s inspiration comes from a space outside of fashion - the world of interiors.
I think the fun part of finding your personal style is being inspired by the wide range of things, places and experiences that resonate with you and how that can help inform parts of your style. I love to see how it evolves and grows with us as individuals. I still find things in my style today that have inspired me from when I was a kid or in my teens!
I have looked to interior design for style inspiration for as long as I can remember - I would cut out images from magazines and put them in my “style scrapbook”, which I think was essentially a style vision board for my younger self.
The images would allow me to dream of outfits I wanted to wear while being in a specific space (which I would then draw on stick figures), or evoke a feeling in me that inspired the way I put an outfit together.
During my career as an apparel design and product developer, I was responsible for creating color palettes and color combinations for the clothing I was developing. Without a true design background, I would use Pantone chips and style inspiration to come up with ideas but when I was in a creative rut, I would shift to spaces outside of fashion to help come up with interesting new combinations based on the colors, textures or movements.
I think a lot of times when we are really heads down within a specific space, like fashion, its a bit like tunnel vision and can start to feel uninspiring especially when we see the same items or ideas being shared by a lot of people or brands. No shame on this BTW! I love when I resonate with an item someone shares. Its just after you reach a limit of over exposure, that certain idea feels like it loses its luster or emotional pull.
So it helps when we can shift to other creative spaces to spark something inside of us that inspires something new in our style - maybe its a film or an exhibit at a museum or just walking outside and noticing the colors in nature or seeing what people are wearing on the street.
Today, I thought it would be fun to share some of my recent interior design saves and how it helps inform color palettes and outfit details I am inspired by.
This is a fun exercise I like to do when:
I am feeling uninspired from my wardrobe and want new styling ideas
As I have a fairly neutral wardrobe, this helps me play with color or texture combos within my closet and/or accessories
I find this super helpful when I work with clients who LOVE color! As I don’t typically wear a ton of color, I like pulling these images to inform color combos based on specific colors the client loves to wear
*I typically would do this exercise with items in my own wardrobe but as I am in the midst of a move, I don’t have a lot of clothes with me, so I’ve created some looks instead!

I looked back at some of the photos I took while at El Fenn and seems I liked an olive canvas jacket + white silk dress combo back then too!
I hope this brought a bit of joy to your inbox on a Sunday and inspires a color/texture combo or two within your wardrobe (or home!)
Do let me know if you would be interested in more interiors-inspired outfit ideas!
Have a beautiful Sunday!
xx

This is so inspiring!
