Hi Readers!
I am writing today from Chicago - a city I haven’t visited in about 15 years (in the dead of winter) and I am so impressed! I haven’t spent much time in the midwest and I didn’t do any research or planning for this last minute trip. I quite like going to a new place without any planning…it lets you visit with zero expectations and embrace the moment!
I could feel a buzzing vibrant energy the moment we drove in from the airport. It reminds me a bit of Toronto…clean, lots of greenery and waterfront views, tourist friendly urban planning, high energy but not overwhelming. We had the best late night dinner upon our arrival at Duck, Duck, Goat (Stephanie Izard’s spot for any Top Chef fans) in the West Loop and I’m excited to do a bit of sightseeing, see some friends, eat a famous Chicago hot dog and LOTS of window shopping. I’ll report back if I find anything worthwhile!
There is a “heat dome” happening so most of our days will be in 95+ degree weather 🥵 which got me thinking….what do we wear to feel stylish when its so hot out?!
We want to stay cool without a ton of layers but for some, we also may still want some coverage or something a bit special or unexpected.
As always, this weekly series is to help inspire you to try some new styling ideas with pieces you may already own, but I have included links where relevant to help point you in the right direction if you are looking for something similar!
I have a lot of inspo to share so this is part I…part II will be released next Sunday and its going to be all about ACCESSORIES!!
Some styling ideas to try -
Structure & Proportion Play - Look for pieces that have a great architectural shape to allow the fabric and construction to be the star, or try styling exaggerated lengths for a refined feel. If shopping: Look for neutrals or what I call “non-neutral” neutrals like Oxblood, Browns and Olives, which pair back to neutrals really easily. Cotton Poplin, Linen, Silk or Nylon (for a sporty touch)
2. Switch Up Your Outer Layer - if you are looking for some coverage, replace your jackets with a button down or vest to stay cool and breezy!
3. Artful Layering
Swimwear Versatility - I love bringing in summery pool/beach pieces like swimwear and sarongs to everyday looks when dressing for hot weather. Perfect for transitioning from the pool or beach to a dinner table, all while staying cool and comfortable!
5. Embrace a shot of color - I have a fairly neutral wardrobe but Summer is a great time to embrace a pop of color! Try colorblocking with accessories, or the boldness also lets you style back to easy neutral basics but still make a statement.
6. A Bit of Skin - The sheer trend is in full force but I love when you have hints of skin showing through vs full-on sheer so some ideas below
Happy styling and stay tuned for part II next Sunday!
xx
