Hi Readers,
It’s ✨Sunday Styling Series✨ time!
One of the best tools we have for stepping into our personal style is our own intuition.
I talk a lot about dressing for how we want to feel but sometimes that can be easier said than done.
We lead very busy lives — we are moving from one task to the next, one meeting to another, one social media post to the other. I find when we move this quickly through our lives, the outer world can become louder than our inner voice.
But like anything else, it’s a muscle that gets stronger with repetition and consistency. When we exercise it, we can start to tap into our inner resonance and that’s how we unlock the true authenticity of our personal style.
When it comes to getting dressed, it’s those times when you may have a split second moment of feeling “off” or those very quiet inner thoughts you quickly brush off so you can just move on with your day…
”I guess this will have to work”
or
“this is good enough”
or
“this would look better if my thighs were thinner/stomach flatter/legs longer…”
When those quick subtle thoughts pop up, it’s being able to take a beat and listen to that voice.
I’ve learned through my own past experiences that the confidence that comes from dressing has everything to do with how you think and feel about yourself more than the actual clothes you are wearing.
Without it, no perfect outfit, luxury designer, or dream wardrobe is going to help you.
So I wanted to share a gentle reminder to never compromise on your style or yourself — don’t settle for pieces just because they are fine, don’t keep clothing because it just fits ok, don’t buy pieces just because it’s what all the influencers are wearing, don’t feel that your body is the issue because it’s not!
Be happy that you took a moment for yourself to put effort into feeling like your best self each day, hold space for yourself, be proud of your body in whatever shape/form it is today — it’s what got you here! (having kids, living through a pandemic, going through life transitions, juggling a crazy calendar and being an all around superhero everyday).
Eeeekk….
I know that’s a bit deep for a Sunday!! To be honest, I didn’t plan to write this intro but it’s been something on my mind after a client styling session this past week and I just wanted to write it down in case anyone needed to hear it today. Please let me know in the comments if you want to delve into the topic further, or feel free to send me a message ❤️ Looking for additional support in holding some space so you can reconnect with your style? OK…now onto something a bit lighter! How can we listen to our own intuition when it comes to styling our outfits? (Sorry — that is a horribly executed transition but it’s Sunday morning and I haven’t had enough coffee yet!!)
When it comes to our style and the outfits we create, it’s the feelings of something not feeling quite right (but you aren’t sure how to fix it)or something not feeling like you (but you aren’t sure why) that we can start to hone in on.
I find that a lot of times, it’s because we are dressing one note. You can apply all the style rules and Excel/Notion wardrobe planners (science) but without the intuition (art), you may not feel truly balanced and grounded in your style.
