Hi Readers,

Welcome to the last ✨Sunday Styling Series✨ of July!

I thought I would switch it up today and focus on style learnings through the lens of one of my favorite style inspirations - Zoë Kravitz!

The celebrities I tend to follow for style inspiration all have one thing in common: consistency.

When you see them photographed out and about on the streets, their outfits always feel modern and representative of current times but there are consistent through lines that keep their looks "on brand”. The reason they always look so effortless regardless of the situation is because their pieces, and how they combine them, resonate with who they are — it speaks to their individuality and their authenticity.

A sign that shows we are becoming more comfortable and confident in our personal style is consistency. When we can evolve and play while staying consistent to the core of our style essence, that’s when we feel our best and most at ease because it is essentially an extension of our inner selves and our spirit, reflected on the outside through the clothes we wear.

It’s the difference between wearing our clothes vs our clothes wearing us. I think it’s the key to feeling confident and prepared to walk into any room, regardless of where you are, because your outfit conveys how you want to express yourself to the world.

It’s not what you are wearing, but how you are wearing it (the vibe).

It’s why I love outfit repeating — when done right. When you are stuck in the same boring outfit loop, that can feel very stagnant. When you outfit repeat by iterating, that’s when our creativity really shines!

It forces you to get creative and think beyond what’s on trend, or in-season. It makes you think about:

  • How many different ways you can wear one item

  • What different pieces you can combine together to create an outfit that resonates with you

  • What little swaps you can make to tell a different story, or to meet the vibe of different occasions

Have a desire to create more consistency and creativity in your wardrobe? Book a call or learn more about my styling services here — I’d love to collaborate so we can get you wearing more of what you truly love and bring more ease and confidence into your day!

Five takeaways from Zoë’s looks -

  1. She’s mastered the look of “in-between” dressing with an easy “high-low effort” outfit formula

We typically focus on getting dressed for specific events on our calendar (work, dinners, important meetings, social events) but it can sometimes feel harder to get dressed for the “in-between” moments. The micro moments where you don’t really need to be “dressed” but still want to look like you put in some effort so you can feel good walking out the door (or running into someone!):

  • school drop-offs

  • appointments

  • running errands on the weekend before your more “important” calendar event (like a girls dinner or a date night)

  • the impromptu weekend brunch with the family (a situation I have seen brings out the “I have nothing to wear!” panic real quickly lol)

  • the Target/CVS/shopping runs

I feel like Zoë’s achieves “in-between” dressing with her go-to formula of 2 parts loungewear (“low” effort) and 2 parts polished (“high” effort):

2 parts lounge (lived-in tee + slip skirt) 2 part polished (loafers + structured bag)
2 parts lounge (hoodie + bike shorts) 2 part polished (structured bag + slides - technically these are basically house slippers but the feminine shape and pop color feels more polished)
An example of a quick way to literally run out in your pjs but still feel like you aren’t just in your pjs: 2 parts lounge (cami + soft pant) 2 parts polished (sunglasses/hat creates the “on the go” vibe + monochrome vs mismatched separates)
a cool night out version - 2 parts lounge (oversized tee + flowy pant) 2 parts polished (heels + sunglasses). The flowy pant in satin makes it feel more dressy overall…I would do a version with a simple rib tank + diamond earrings and wear it to a dinner!

  1. I think she might be a TIBI color wheel fan!

For those who aren’t familiar with the brand Tibi and the founder Amy Smilovic, the team created a genius color wheel to help us all learn how to mix-n-match colors with more ease so that we can use color to convey how we want to feel depending on the vibe we want to create. Amy’s substack is a treasure trove of amazingly cool and practical style tips if you want to learn more!

The Color Wheel | The Creative Pragmatist | Tibi – Tibi Official
Tibi color wheel is broken out into 4 rings: Ring 1 is where you may be starting from if you find Black the easiest color to wear. Ring 2 are your classic colors like Navy/Browns/Creams that are classic, neutral and easy to pair together. It’s like the comfort zone. Ring 3 are the “no color colors” that create that effortless chill and can be surprisingly easy to mix back to Ring 1 + 2 using this wheel as a guide. Ring 4 are the brights. Basically, the closer you are in mixing rings with Ring 1 will create a cool modern vibe. The farther you are from Ring 1 and mixing colors (ie: Ring 1 + Ring 4) will be a bolder, less nuanced, statement so the key is mixing across the rings if you want to create a chill, modern, creative vibe.
Ring 1 + 2 colors - classic, modern, but still interesting by way of texture (satin + wool)
moving into Ring 3 - still feels chic and modern but it’s a bit more nuanced in terms of the color pairing (again, she introduces texture to avoid her look feeling super flat)
Ring 1 +2 + 4 - I love how the skirt makes a statement but still creates an overall soft feel when combined with Ring 1 +2s
Ring 1 + 2 + 3 - a great example of wearing a lot of color but still feeling cohesive and balanced as they share similar undertones. Also, another example of 2 parts lounge (tank + sandals) 2 parts polished (structured mini bag + long satin skirt) Bonus points for the diamond necklace which creates a cool balance to this undone look
Ring 2 + 3 + 4 - I love this example bc I probably would never think to pair a pastel green with a green-khaki but it looks cool and interesting!
Ring 2 + 4 - The bolder Ring 4 cornflower blue and yellow heels become grounded when paired back with a Ring 2 brown
