Hi Readers!
Welcome to another ✨ Sunday Styling Series ✨!
This is the final installment of the summer series on how to create styling interest when it’s HOT out.
(part I focused on clothes styling + part II focused on jewelry and bags)
Today, I’m sharing some tips on Shoes, Belts, Scarves and Hair Accessories.
When its hot out, the last thing we want is to feel uncomfortable in our outfits so I always recommend dressing for ease and comfort. Think easy breezy natural fabrications, loose silhouettes and bare skin moments so you can literally stay cool and not be fussing and sweating over your fits.
I lean on accessories to weave through little styling details on days I can’t be bothered about my clothes and want to rely on my go-to Summer uniforms of a simple minimalist dress or minimal bare tank and some kind of loose short (pull-on, oversized denim shorts).
As always, this series is more about HOW you wear things vs WHAT to wear but I’ve included some links where relevant to help point you in the right direction if you are looking for something similar.
Some SHOE styling ideas to try -
1. Juxtaposition - Similar to bags, use shoes as a way to create contrast or tension to a look. A lot of my clients feel they can’t mix dressy footwear with casual looks or vice versa, but that’s just a made up rule!
Some easy ways to apply: a cool sneaker with a summer skirt or dress or a really casual shoe like a flip flop with more tailored looks some other juxtaposition ideas from a recent client lookbook! 1| a tonal look with a crisp button down and satin skirt paired with casual colorful flip flops .I love the mix of something really polished and luxe with a super basic shoe. Perfect for a summery destination where you want to look chic but effortless. 2| A lived-in linen set (top + bottom) that takes you from day to night with an elevated kitten heel and a convertible bag/clutch. You could easily wear this set with a sandal but the heel just helps create a bit of polish. 2. Add a “Pop” - Shoes are an easy way to inject some fun and contrast to your look!
1 | I love metallics with an all-white look or monochrome look 2 | a pop of color styled in a really minimal way 3 | an updated take on leopard (ps - the loose double layer dress is SO good) 4 | one of my favorite styling tips - an optic white shoe with all black for high impact (this one is great when you want a bit of brightness to your black outfits in Summer!) (Mini shoe edit here) Some BELT styling ideas to try -
I LOVE a belt. Belts have now become mainstays in our wardrobes (thank god!). They can provide texture, contrast, juxtaposition, depth, interest. I get so much versatility from belts and as they are sometimes the only accessory I use to switch up my look so I like to have a range of options to choose from.
1 | I love a chunky wide belt for contrast to tonal looks or silhouettes that are really straight in proportion. Kallmeyer(get on the waitlist for the Black!), Toteme size S! 2| A statement belt with some interesting hardware adds elevated polish for workwear or a social dress B-Low (in 3 colors,) affordable option 3| A corded belt is a hit this season and I own this one from Zara in White and Black but the red is so fun too! Great price point. Leather version here and here 4| I don’t wear brown a lot but I love the dark brown shown here against the bright white. I also think the extra long shape is interesting (though not very practical!). Janessa Leone, Banana Republic, Madewell (bonus points for the braided texture!) another great visual example here from Na Nin Studio - love the statement gold buckle and the brown against a bright white relaxed casual look Non-Leather Belts - think fabrics, embroidery and hardware to choose your own belted adventure!
1 + 2 | A gold chain is a great way to add texture and a bit of personality in the Summer B-Low, Vintage, Vintage 3| I love fabric embroidered belts as a way to inject color and pattern to neutral outfits Figue , fun color combos here! 4| you get the same effect with an embroidered belt Isabel Marant here + here (plus notice her red hair scarf!) Also, remember to get creative! Check out your local flea markets or vintage shops or see what you have in your own home for a non-traditional belt
Some recent looks using a cotton herringbone twill sash. I took it from the packaging on a recent bed sheet set I purchased :) 1| I like the contrast it provides to denim 2| this cotton sleep dress is from Portugal and quite loose so I like the simple sash tied at the center for waist shaping and a bit of texture. Similar here and drawstring cord version here in diff widths you don’t need to pay $300 for this tie detail!! (but if you must, these are the popular CoH jeans….but really just add your own tie)
Unrelated but related, I was inspired by the beautiful stripe Carven bag from last Sunday’s post and felt my outfit from the other day needed a little stripe moment so I repurposed a bedding cover to create a casual Summer bag 😁 (lol now I wish I bought a green stripe duvet but this to show you can find styling ideas/tools truly anywhere!)

Some SCARF styling ideas to try -
I feel like a lot of us have a drawer full of scarves but have no clue what to actually do with them. They are a little way to incorporate some personality and interest to a look and inject a fun pop of color or pattern and I love just using what you already have. Most of us have ones that have specific memories or were passed down to us by our mothers or grandmothers. They work just as well for Fall layering as they do in the Summer!

Some HAIR styling ideas to try -
If you are like me, you are wearing your hair up most days in the hot Summer. Buy a fun updated scrunchie or hair tie/clip for the season!

These are my current favorite hair clips. They are beautifully made but practical and come in some beautiful colors and sizes. A great gift idea too!

I hope you enjoyed this mini styling series - let me know in the comments!
Have a beautiful Sunday!

There are, again, so many great ideas here! The red flip flops, the genius bedding bag (maybe even turning a pillow into a bag!) I'm not a huge belt fan but I love the white on white with the brown sandals-- how about that with red flip flops!
I'm also low key obsessed with some of the simple sculptural jewelry from last week to add to flowy outfits.
Great stuff. Thank you!
You put a lot of work into this - thank you!
