This should be made into a series because this advice is RICH. I loved seeing the way you switched from a piece for our vacation self into a more closet-sustainable option and then matching that with actual styling suggestions. Brilliant!
Also, I heard a girl (on TikTok?) say "why don't we introduce our closet to our vacation, we like our closet the other 360 days of the year." I thought that was so true. Like I'm hiding my real life from a fantasy.
Ooh great idea! It would be fun to do a this, not that series! And yes, I totally agree..if we have versatile pieces we love, they can be good enough for any trip!
I'm totally that person who packs the workout gear that I otherwise never use! The examples you provided were helpful. Another thing I've considered for vacations is signing up for a month of Nuuly or Rent the Runway (4 to 6 pieces depending on the subscription) to scratch the itch of trying out a new look on vacation. Plus, these services take care of cleaning these pieces after, which is a relief after a trip!
Second this. Renting a few resortwear looks for a vacation totally scratches the itch and guarantees some good pics while not taking up any space in your real life closet.
Also, pro tip: if you must work out on vacation (I get it!), bodyweight exercises and HIIT classes (à la peloton or YouTube) do not require sneakers and if you do them in your hotel room you don’t even need full outfit 😎
I’d love to see a similar series on how you don’t need to buy a whole new “work wardrobe” for an office job. Despite my closet editing I still feel like I have a few pieces that I mentally relegate as “office wear.”
This is such great content. I often buy my purses on vacation-- they're a great souvenir etc, I like the idea of shopping my closet first so my purse budget increases! Seriously though, I liked seeing the switches you made and like the idea of thinking of a dress first worn on vacation as a souvenir as well. The examples you showed were really good. Thank you!
It’s this tape yarn sweater from J crew! I love an open knit sweater in the summer as it feels a bit more elevated. I own this one and it is a regular fit so I ended up going two sizes up for a more slouchy fit
This is SO GOOD. The day I realized that I wear bold patterned dresses once was the day I started shopping SO MUCH SMARTER!!! I love how you’ve balanced the (very real/human reaction) fantasy of a vacation with choosing things you’ll actually wear AND live up to the fantasy!!
Very good note on the print! I absolutely love prints and always feel so disappointed when I don’t wear my print dresses/shirts as often as I thought when I bought them for vacation
Yes, prints are more emotional purchases. We react to them a bit more in the moment but unless it’s a more subtle/classic print, I find they tire quickly!
Maybe just different pieces you recommend and then styled for different occasion/purposes! Doesn't need to be any fancier than that, I just love your pov

That’s a great tip! It’s easy to do yoga or Pilates on a beach towel and in your regular loungewear (or even PJs) too.
That’s such a great idea Claire! I think a rental option is great for those novelty pieces you want to try out or bring on a trip!
Also another vote to make this a series, please!
Let me know if you have an example of what you would want to see!

Ooh yes!! I’ve been thinking a lot about office wear especially when it’s hot out. Thanks for the feedback!

I’m not sure?! 😂
So good!
Thank you for reading Ashley! ❤️
Loved this - very much identify with this!!
Prints that tire quickly! Yesss! I’m just packing plain black dresses this year. I constantly struggle with the vacation fantasy self.
It’s a common struggle! Black is forever chic ❤️And you can always add a splash of print or color with an accessory!

Thank you so much Christina! I’ve had lots of moments shopping for my fantasy self in the past!

Very very good piece, please turn into a series! Loved the visuals!
Thanks Julia! Lmk if you have examples of what you would like to see if it was a series!
