I feel like I say this every month but October really flew by — I think I tend to feel this way as we move into the last few months of the year. There’s a different energy to Fall/Winter that picks up pace as the weeks go on and it just sneaks up on you!
Some things I’m looking forward to this month:
VOTING! I know the past few weeks but especially this week, will be one of anxiousness for many so I hope this newsletter can be a quiet happy respite for you 🫶
My birthday! The big 4-0. Cheers to my fellow Scorpios! ♏️
Cozy dressing…big chunky turtleneck sweaters, cardigans that act like warm fuzzy robes, all my coats. Every. Single. One. Of. Them. Tis’ the season! 🧥
Dinners and games by the fire. Slow cooking of soups and stews. My full bodied red wines…Sangiovese, Montepulciano, Barbera, Nebbiolo oh-my 🍷
The sound of football in the house…I literally never know who’s playing but the sounds of my husband screaming and cheering in the background is now one of comfort 🏈
Traveling — it’s become a recent favorite over the last few years to travel during Thanksgiving or Christmas as it’s shoulder season for a lot of places so you can visit without the heavy crowds. This month, we’re heading to Australia and New Zealand to celebrate my 40th so I’ll be taking the last couple of weeks off from the newsletter (so please share your favorite topics in the poll at the end!) 🛫🦘
Turtleneck hair season!
Now onto my November High-Five…
5 pieces I'm loving for this month
I’m switching it up a bit this month and sharing something OLD, something NEW, something USED, something COOL, something COZY (it would have been nicer if I could get it all to rhyme!)
I kind of went down a rabbit hole so there’s more links than normal!
1// SOMETHING OLD - I’ve owned this Anine Bing sweater for many years. I’m not a fan of a tight turtleneck of any kind so this is the only one I’ve found that creates the look without feeling stuffy. I also love a really oversized chunky sweater you can wear on it’s own. It just creates a different shape compared to lighter drapey sweaters. Not the same but I love the shape of this…very old Céline. Both will create great turtleneck hair. 2// SOMETHING NEW - As we move into Winter, I start to prioritize being warm and comfy more than other months. Jamie Haller just released this pant - the perfect “I want to wear sweats but still feel modern and chic” option. Notice the flat waistband, the seams at the knee which give a modern tailored shape, the non-cinched straight hem? Design details matter. @Ofelia of All The Above newsletter swears by these that make her feel the same way at a great price point. These also look interesting if you prefer more of a lounge vs tailored feel. Basically, my point is let’s all try a sweatpant with a straight hem! 3// SOMETHING USED - There’s something so chic about a bag mixed with leather and suede. It’s why I’ve been a loyal fan to my old Céline rather than replacing it or buying something new. It’s a design detail I don’t see being used as often these days but I love this used one from Altuzarra. Also, have I been sleeping on Altuzarra for bags?! Another one with colorblocking that’s never been worn. If you are looking for a new condition, I’m kind of obsessed with JW Anderson one. And a more subtle version from Proenza Schouler (I own this bag in multiple sizes in just the leather - I love the architectural shape!). 4// SOMETHING COOL - Per said cozy vibes and funnel neck chunky sweaters, I rely on a great earring to be my main accessory. I tend to wear my hair up with chunkier sweaters but it also adds a low-lift, but very impactful, touch to said sweats. These stud drop earrings are on my wish list. The image doesn’t do it justice - click the link to see how they are stacked on the model! I have two piercing on one side of my ear so I want to wear it stacked but I also think they feel so sophisticated as a pair. I love how they just float on the ear. If metal is more your vibe, I love these on their own or stack two for a very cool statement. 5// SOMETHING COZY - Scarves can be a necessity in the colder months but it’s also a styling tool! This is great if you want to treat yourself (Available for less $ on this site in Grey and Black. It’s like my old Everlane handkerchief scarf meets my oversized blanket scarf that I’ve had for years. I think I prefer charcoal so I’ll be trying this great alternate in cashmere. Or this version in brushed cashmere.
4 ways I would style these items
So many ways to wear the bandana scarf - draped over the shoulder with wool suiting, loosely tied at the front and wrapped around the shoulder, covering the neck, using it to create a lapel under blazers and coats, as a shawl bonnet! Imagine it with the cool stud earrings!! And your leather+suede bag!
I didn’t end up creating looks because I loved how Jamie Haller styled the pants. The drop earrings would work with any of the looks - matching the refinement of the dressier options, elevating the casual options. How I think about jewelry is the same as clothes - find the pieces that can make getting dressed and elevating your looks easier! The key to dressing up something relaxed like a sweat pant or lounge pant is balance and juxtaposition. Like the feminine ballet flat or pointed kitten heel. The drapey blouse or the polished turtleneck. The non-lounge wrap coat or trench. This also shows how the straight hem of the sweat pant really helps polish up the look. You could still wear these looks with a cinched cuff but it doesn’t create the same ease as the straight hem. (I love how it puddles when worn with a flat shoe).
How I’ll be wearing my chunky sweater this season - with leggings but make them interesting with the stirrup design + simple ballet flat // with my favorite worn-in denim and comfiest loafers and a hint of sparkle // with slouchy leather pants, a sheer sock, and slip on clogs…slightly tomboyish, slightly casual, slightly modern // with a silk skirt or slip dress for texture and contrast

3 easy styling tips I’ve been using lately
I always feel better and more productive when I put a bit of effort into what I’m wearing each day but it’s been a hectic few weeks so I’m relying on really quick easy styling that help me feel put together but require very little effort. I tend to stick to the same 2-3 main pieces and wear them in multiple ways throughout the week to reduce decision making.
Let your coats do the heavy lifting
When the temps drop, I tend to just wear basics and let the coat do the work for me. This past week wearing my Wardrobe NYC coat, a very old Camilla & Marc coat, and a Lauren Manoogian sweater coat
Winter Whites
My current WFH look is a tonal winter white. It feels refreshing and is perfect for those mornings when you don’t know what to wear or aren’t sure what “goes together”! Don’t worry about the whites matching…I actually prefer shades of whites/creams/ecru all mixed together for dimension!
Sheer Socks
Don’t under estimate socks as a styling tool! I’ve been leaning on some black sheer socks to dress up my clogs on the days I want to wear clogs but not feel like I’m wearing clogs and to create a new look with flats. I love them with heels, ballet flats, loafers, you name it! There’s a bit of femininity to a sheer sock that feels quite nice compared to a regular cotton or wool sock.
2 topics, readers choice
I’ll plan two more newsletters for this month as I’ll be traveling. I’ll be posting an extra one that’s free for all subscribers but it’s going to be repurposed from IG so I feel like it’s cheating!
Which topics are your top 2 favorites you want to see this month? The remainder I’ll look to write in December (unless no one votes on them) so this will just help me prioritize for you all!

**Note for the “Trends” topic, it’s more from a personal style lens vs actual shopping list of what trends to buy.
1 poem or quote resonating with me today
I actually had a different series of poems I was going to post for this newsletter but I happened upon this one circulating on my social feed this morning. A gentle reminder that kindness can help us feel more similar than different.
I hope you all have a lovely month of November!
Whether it’s your first time, or 15th time reading this newsletter, I really appreciate each and everyone of you for being here and reading this journal 🫶
xx

Hi Angie, great newsletter, I learn so much from your articles. Do you have any non-cuff sweatpants you recommend that are more moderately priced than the JH ones you featured? The pair you have on with your Starbucks look great. You have opened my eyes to styling sweatpants. Thanks
