I have found your advice of playing with my clothes and trying to make outfits so incredibly useful. I go into an office in the morning and when i come home at lunch before i change into my more comfortable clothes I spend 15-20 minutes playing around with the clothes in my closet. Sometimes it is to make an outfit for something that is coming up or it is to try recreating some looks in my outfit inspo folder or it is to try incorporating something I’ve just bought into my outfit screenshots. I find that since i have my makeup and hair done for work this is a great time to practice since i look and feel good and can get a more finished feel for the outfits. It’s been great to find new winners!
That such a good idea Ash and what I love about it too is that you’ve built in a new habit, to where it doesn’t feel daunting or like a chore but a little bit of “me time” to play! ❤️❤️
Yesss, great tips Angie. I took away so much from our session and now wear that shirt 2 times a week, haha! I also realized why I find so much inspiration when you share insights into working with your clients - the looks are not Pinterest perfect or specifically curated for Instagram but actual women living actual lives. Similar to your tip on creating a style POV based on real life. It’s refreshing and why I keep coming back to your page for inspiration. Thank you!
I loved this article! I even applied some of your points mid article - when I saw the photo of your client wearing the Alexander wang slides, I loved the colour combination. I realised I had items in my wardrobe in similar colours and immediately built an outfit in my Indyx app and have now got a whole new outfit from items I already have. Thanks!!
Love this post as always, thank you. What really spoke to me was the 4 pictures with the yellow trainers, they made such an important point to me on how to incorporate a trend that is you and not a carbon copy of a ‘look’. In fact, in the fourth picture she wasn’t even trying to incorporate a fashion item, she just liked the trainers! Great visual point to make, thank you.
Yes that’s what I love about it too! I also think it’s a good visual to show that you can like a trend shown in a trendy way but incorporate in a way that feels authentic ❤️
Excellent tips, yes to everything. Love your tip of going to a Goodwill or thrift store. When I go thrifting, there is no agenda, just seeing what's there and what I like!!
100%! It’s so fun just to see what you find but also what you are drawn to. I also feel like bc it’s such a broad assortment, you get exposure to things you wouldn’t normally see
This may be one of the best styling pieces in substack. Especially #1
I am now 38 yo and actually have just begun understanding that importance of what I wear comes not from me liking fashion or trends or simply being women (vs men in my life/husband/ who throw on first clean thing in the wardrobe) but from a need to express visually a deep state of my soul. While that might sound too poetic, the idea is that having a point of view is first about getting to know myself not through algorithms or trends but through life. Only then can I properly express it through clothes.
1000%! You explained this so beautifully! You can’t visually articulate yourself through your clothes without knowing yourself or understanding how you move through the world. They are so intrinsically tied! Love this 💛

That’s what it’s about!! And yes that color combo is killer and feels like ones that we all already have in our closets ❤️
